Taiwan Baseball News: Leos Seek To Increase Lead Over Bulls

President Lions 5 Makoto Gida 3
First baseman Chuan-jia Wang went 2-for-5 with two RBIs to help the President Lions beat the Makoto Gida 5-3 last night as the Chinese Professional Baseball League returned to action after a day off. Wang was named the Game's MVP.
Relievers Yang-kai Chen and Jung-yang Tsao combined to close out the Gida, who fell to 9-15-0. Tsao notched his eighth save of the season.
Also contributing for the Leos, who improved to 18-6-0, was leadoff man Kang-ling Huang in center field. He went 1-for-4 but scored twice last night. Designated hitter Lien-hung Chen also finished up 1-for-4 and drove in a run.
American native Michael Marchesano pitched six innings and gave up four runs, three earned, to pick up the loss for the Gida. However, there were a few bright spots for the Gida. Right fielder Cheng-han Wu went 2-for-4 with one run scored and one RBI and left fielder Chan-rong Chiou went 2-for-4 with one run. Always consistent second baseman Yi-shian Lin went 2-for-4 with one run scored.
The Lions and Gida play again tonight (6:35 p.m. Taiwan time) at the same Tainan Stadium where they have been holed up for a while.

First Securities Agan 0 Brother Elephants 4
Japanese native Sin Nakagomi combined with two other relievers as the Brother Elephants blanked the First Securities Agan 4-0 last night before 1,822 fans at Shingcung Stadium. Last night's game was played to make up a postponed April 3 game.
Nakagomi pitched a shutout for seven innings before giving way to closer Ruen-win Hsiao. Nakagomi picked up his first win of the 2003 season to improve to 1-3-0 and he was also honoured with the Game MVP award.
The Elephants picked up a run each in the first and second innings and two runs in the fourth to coast to the win. Short stop Rue-chang Chen went 1-for-2 with one run scored and one RBI in the leadoff spot as the Elephants doubled up on the Agan in terms of hits, 8-4.
American Greg Bicknell picked up the loss for the Agan, going six innings and giving up four earned runs. Bicknell failed to pick up his first win of the season and fell to 0-3-0. Short stop Rafael Osuna went 1-for-4.
