Taiwan Baseball News: Whales Blow Gida Out of Water

China Trust Whales 10 Makoto Gida 3

After being harpooned 10-3 by the Makoto Gida two nights ago, the China Trust Whales bounced back with a 10-3 victory last night in front of 1,424 fans.

Two nights earlier, the Gida scored five runs in the first five innings but last night, the Whales came back with 8 runs in the sixth, seventh and eighth innings to increase the lead of 2-1 they had to begin the fifth.

Chien-san Kao gave up two runs, both earned, as he improved to 2-1-0 on the season and was named the game's MVP. Australian pitcher Shayne Bennett of the Gida gave up seven runs, five earned, in 6 2/3 innings to drop to 0-2-0 as Makoto suffered from poor pitching last night. Bennett has an ERA of 9.72 so far this season.

Whales' outfielder Song-hsuen Yang was 3-for-4 with one RBI and two runs scored while first baseman Tsung-hui Tung went 2-for-4, plating two runs. Second baseman Yueh-liang Lin went 1-for-3 with two RBIs and a run scored to complete the hitting barrage for the Whales, who improved to 7-7-1 and are four games back of the Sinon Bulls in the Chinese Professional Baseball League standings. The Gida fell to 6-9 and are now 5.5 games back of the Bulls.
