The top three stories out of the MLB website on this first day of the last season before Spring.
1. Hot Stove League
In Philadelphia the pan is sizzling. The Phillies traded Johnny Estrada for Kevin Millwood. Is this possible? Has the world gone crazy? Maybe Chipper Jones for Travis Lee is next?
In 1972 the Phillies made a trade with the St.Louis Cardinals to get a 28-year-old pitcher with a six-year career record of 77-62, it was Steve Carlton, and over the next 15 years he won 230 games for the Phillies and became a Hall-of Famer. So here comes 28-year old Kevin Millwood, five-year career record 75-46 to stir up Phillies’ fans hopes of the second-coming of the great Carlton. Has anyone noticed that the days are getting longer?
2. MLB Employees Throw Christmas Party For The Boys Club of New York
Bless their hearts – the boys and the employees. Santa Claus was there of course – the old guy used to be a second baseman. The kids got lots of baseball stuff – balls, jerseys, caps – also some Tonka trucks and some Zoids – hey, I just report this stuff.
3. Pete Rose
